More Than Gold
"The song, MORE THAN GOLD, was written for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Georgia, specifically, for the organization went by the same name.
MORE THAN GOLD was committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the visitors from all around the world who were flooding into the city for this great event. The song served as an anthem for the movement.
Later, when the Paul Anderson memorial project came about, using this song just seemed right.
Once I heard the many cassette tapes of his messages, the song seemed even more providential, as if appointed by God to proclaim Paul’s message to the world. His booming voice is suspended in time, and elevated in the music to create an event in itself. MORE THAN GOLD was Paul’s own message.
I can only thank God for allowing me to set it to music. I was honored to have been chosen by God, not only to write the song, but to be a part of the team of beautiful people that put this memorial tribute together."
"I never knew Paul Anderson. I met him only a year before his death, and yet, in the course of compiling this work, I came to know him intimately by the things he left behind, in the great roar of his voice as I listened to the many recordings, and by the tenderness with which so many spoke of him, things that allowed me to understand the spirit and true greatness of the man, a greatness more real than the legend that surrounds him.
It became my desire to capture that spirit as well as could be captured on a recording, not by magnifying the legend, but in capturing that which remains alive in the voices of those whom he loved and those whose lives were changed by his intervention. This perhaps is the truest test of a man's legacy.
Above all, to him, more than the many trophies, more than all the dreams that were realized, more than the roar of the crowd and the raising of his beloved country's flag...a life surrendered in the service of Christ was the greatest prize, a prize worth more than gold."
